Head of Data Engineering – Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +4 more states.

📋 Description

• Build, lead, and nurture a high-performing team of senior data and analytics engineers tasked with managing Mercury's core data infrastructure.

• Define and implement Mercury's long-term data platform strategy, focusing on architecture, tooling, and reusable data products for analytics, AI, operational systems, and self-service.

• Create a platform that simplifies data discovery, understanding, and utilization for both people and AI systems at Mercury.

• Invest in semantic models, metadata, and developer tools that ensure trusted data can be reused across the organization.

• Establish the groundwork for a reliable and resilient data platform by adhering to best practices in reliability, observability, data quality, governance, privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.

• Collaborate with leaders in Engineering, Product, Data Science, Security, and Infrastructure to enhance product development, business operations, and decision-making processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of relevant experience, including more than 5 years in leadership roles within data or engineering teams.

• Proven experience in architecting modern data platforms at scale.

• Demonstrated success in building data foundations, semantic layers, metadata, and platform capabilities for analytics, AI, machine learning, and operational systems.

• Strong technical judgment and organizational influence to adapt data architecture during periods of rapid growth.

• In-depth knowledge of data modeling, orchestration, streaming, storage systems, metadata, and governance.

• Experience collaborating with Security, Legal, Compliance, and Privacy teams.

• Proven track record of ensuring data platforms comply with privacy, security, and regulatory standards required for a regulated financial institution.
