Head of Custody & Compliance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Cyprus, +5 more countries.

📋 Description

• Lead and enhance the custody infrastructure and operations for digital assets.

• Supervise cryptocurrency deposits, withdrawals, and transaction processing activities.

• Manage relationships with custody service providers like Fireblocks, Copper, BitGo, and related platforms.

• Ensure the security, reliability, and scalability of digital asset operations.

• Identify and address operational risks, bottlenecks, and critical incidents.

• Spearhead the operational implementation of KYC, AML, and Travel Rule requirements.

• Develop and refine customer verification and transaction monitoring processes.

• Construct compliance workflows, including case management, escalation procedures, and operational controls.

• Enhance compliance efficiency through automation and technology integration.

• Collaborate with Legal, Risk, and compliance stakeholders to implement regulatory requirements.

• Establish fraud detection and prevention processes.

• Oversee transaction monitoring and the detection of suspicious activities.

• Minimize fraud exposure while reducing unnecessary restrictions for legitimate customers.

• Monitor operational risks and enhance internal controls.

• Manage custody, KYC, AML, and blockchain infrastructure providers.

• Evaluate and select technology solutions; negotiate commercial terms and service agreements.

• Collaborate with engineering teams on integrations and infrastructure enhancements.

• Lead the Custody & Compliance strategy and operational development.

• Manage priorities, resources, and cross-functional initiatives effectively.

• Work together with engineering and product teams to enhance existing solutions.

• Define and track operational performance metrics.

• Contribute to product strategy and business decisions concerning custody and compliance.

• Engage directly with senior leadership on strategic initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong professional background in crypto custody, compliance, AML/KYC, or digital asset operations.

• Experience in a cryptocurrency exchange, custody provider, crypto wallet, digital asset platform, or a financial institution focused on cryptocurrencies.

• In-depth knowledge of AML/KYC, transaction monitoring, Travel Rule, and crypto compliance processes.

• Practical experience with custody infrastructure and digital asset transaction flows.

• Experience collaborating with custody, compliance, or blockchain infrastructure providers.

• Proven capability to build, manage, and enhance operational processes.

• Experience leading teams or managing complex cross-functional initiatives.

• Strong understanding of operational and regulatory risks within the crypto industry.

• Ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Nice-to-have: Experience with Fireblocks, Copper, BitGo, or similar custody solutions.

• Nice-to-have: Familiarity with Chainalysis, TRM Labs, Sumsub, or comparable compliance platforms.

• Nice-to-have: Experience in managing product development or working closely with engineering teams.

• Nice-to-have: Understanding of product metrics, customer conversion, and business economics.

• Nice-to-have: Experience scaling custody or compliance infrastructure in a rapidly growing crypto company.

• Nice-to-have: Previous experience in roles such as Head of Compliance, Head of Custody, Head of Crypto Operations, or similar positions.
