This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.

πŸ“‹ Description

β€’ Perform coding for inpatient and/or outpatient hospital records, emergency department records, home health & hospice records, and/or professional fee services for purposes of reimbursement, research, and compliance with Federal regulations.

β€’ Evaluate existing medical records and assign CPT, ICD, and MS-DRG codes in accordance with UHDDS, CMS, Federal Regulations, as well as hospital and departmental policies.

β€’ Extract data for the Quality Improvement department and supply information to The Joint Commission.

β€’ Investigate medical records across various computer systems to ensure timely coding completion.

β€’ Identify any missing documents, confirm that all encounters are coded, and produce necessary queries.

β€’ Address pre-bill edits, denials, and other concerns related to assigned accounts.

β€’ Keep updated and share current technical, legal, regulatory, and coding knowledge, including updates on ICD-9/10-CM, CPT-4, HCPCS, DRG, APC, and/or HHRG.

β€’ Engage in departmental in-services and updates.

β€’ Report issues to the Clinical Coding Manager and Supervisor of EW.

β€’ Achieve and maintain a minimum accuracy rate of 95% and an average-to-high productivity level as per PHS standards.


⛳️ Requirements

β€’ A high school diploma or GED is required.

β€’ At the time of hire, candidates must possess one of the following coding certifications: HCS-D, CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H, CPC, or RHIT/RHIA, with the expectation to obtain one of the aforementioned coding credentials within one year of employment.

β€’ One to three years of experience in coding is required.

β€’ Proficiency in computer applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

β€’ Capability to utilize the internet and other electronic resources for research purposes.

β€’ Experience with an encoder is preferred.

β€’ Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is preferred.

β€’ Continuation of education (CE) requirements must be maintained in accordance with PHS policy.
