This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Implement soil mechanics, hydrology, hydrogeology, hydraulics, and slope stability analysis principles under close supervision.
• Assist with technical functions and projects involving tailings storage facilities, heap leach pads, and water dams.
• Aid in geotechnical and water management projects.
• Gather, organize, analyze, validate, and review data from geotechnical monitoring instruments.
• Provide support for field investigations, including drilling, Cone Penetrometer Testing, test pits, sampling, and related field work.
• Create cross sections, profiles, maps, and engineering figures utilizing survey, instrumentation, and geological data.
• Assist with beach profiling, bathymetric surveys, drone surveys, and QA/QC activities related to tailings deposition and earthworks.
• Conduct field inspections of slopes, embankments, beaches, drainage systems, ponds, and other operational areas.
• Collect and validate water management field data and assist in water balance modeling.
• Draft technical inspection reports, summaries, and presentation materials.
• Collaborate with site operations, engineering, environmental, and water resources teams.
• Prepare technical summaries to aid engineering decisions.
• Undertake additional duties and special projects as needed.
• Currently enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year university pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a closely related field; OR a recent graduate within 12 months of the internship start date with a bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MineSight, Power BI, or GIS-related software.
• Strong skills in data analysis and problem-solving.
• Highly accurate and detail-oriented.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Demonstrated initiative and organizational skills; capable of working well under pressure.
• Ability to collaborate and work effectively within a team environment.
• Capability to adhere to health, safety, and environmental procedures in active mining and tailings management settings.
• Willingness to learn, inquire, and apply engineering concepts in both office and field environments.
• Interest in mining, tailings management, water resources, or geotechnical engineering.
• Ability to understand, apply, and communicate verbal and written work and safety-related instructions in English.
• Capacity to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet time-sensitive deadlines.
• Mandatory pre-employment and ongoing random drug testing as required by state law.
• Preferred: Master's degree student in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
• Preferred: Registered Engineering Intern or Engineer-in-Training; passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam.
• Preferred: Knowledgeable in geotechnical instrumentation, cross sections, stratigraphy, site investigations, drilling, CPT, soil characterization, geotechnical laboratory tests, hydrology, hydrogeology, hydraulics, sediment transport, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, MIKE-11, GoldSim, and ArcGIS.
