This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.
• Utilize principles of soil mechanics, hydrology, hydrogeology, hydraulics, and slope stability analysis under close supervision.
• Assist in technical functions and projects related to tailings storage facilities, heap leach pads, and water dams.
• Provide support for geotechnical and water management initiatives.
• Gather, organize, and analyze data from geotechnical instrumentation systems.
• Aid in field investigations which include drilling, Cone Penetrometer Testing, test pits, sampling, and other related activities.
• Create cross sections, profiles, maps, and engineering figures by utilizing survey, instrumentation, and geological data.
• Contribute to beach profiling, bathymetric surveys, drone surveys, and QA/QC tasks associated with tailings deposition and earthworks.
• Conduct field inspections of slopes, embankments, beaches, drainage systems, ponds, and operational areas.
• Collect and verify field data related to water management and assist with water balance modeling.
• Draft technical inspection reports, summaries, and presentation materials.
• Collaborate with teams in site operations, engineering, environmental, and water resources.
• Execute data validation, conduct trend reviews, and prepare technical summaries to inform engineering decisions.
• Undertake additional duties and special projects as necessary.
• Must be currently enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year university pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a closely related field; OR be a recent graduate within 12 months prior to the internship start date with a bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Familiar with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MineSight, Power BI, or GIS-related software.
• Strong skills in data analysis and problem-solving.
• Highly accurate and detail-oriented.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Demonstrated initiative and organizational skills, capable of working well under pressure.
• Ability to collaborate and work effectively within a team environment.
• Competence in adhering to health, safety, and environmental protocols in active mining and tailings management settings.
• Eagerness to learn, inquire, and apply engineering concepts in both office and field environments.
• Interest in mining, tailings management, water resources, or geotechnical engineering.
• Proficient in understanding, applying, and communicating verbal and written work and safety-related instructions in English.
• Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet time-sensitive deadlines.
• Mandatory pre-employment and ongoing random drug testing as mandated by applicable state laws.
• Preferred: Master’s degree student in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
• Preferred: Registered Engineering Intern or Engineer-in-Training status and having passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
• Preferred: Knowledge of geotechnical instrumentation, cross sections, stratigraphy, site investigations, CPT, soil characterization, laboratory tests, hydrology, hydrogeology, hydraulics, sediment transport, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, MIKE-11, GoldSim, and ArcGIS.
