Geospatial Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and deliver high-quality geospatial data pipelines and features.

• Assume technical ownership of geospatial data curation and GIS-based analysis.

• Create dependable and scalable solutions for managing, integrating, and accessing geospatial data.

• Collaborate effectively with data engineers, data scientists, analysts, and business teams.

• Ensure the smooth flow of geospatial data throughout the data environment.

• Assist in the development of valuable data products and evidence-driven decision-making.

• Utilize technical expertise on large-scale datasets.

• Contribute to broader data engineering objectives, including data governance, data quality, and operational support.

• Report to the Head of Data Product Development and work in close partnership with the Data Product Lead and Lead Engineer.

⛳️ Requirements

• Relevant degree or qualification, or equivalent professional experience, with strong skills in geospatial data engineering and analysis.

• Extensive professional experience showcasing broad and/or specialist knowledge in geospatial engineering and analysis.

• Experience in processing, cleansing, and preparing geospatial data for GIS production and analytical purposes.

• Proficiency in using ArcGIS, QGIS, or other GIS software.

• Strong understanding of coordinate systems, projections, spatial joins, catchment analysis, and network analysis.

• Experience leveraging geospatial data and analytics to generate business value and contribute to data products.

• Ability to convey geospatial insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, and Snowflake.

• Experience programming in Python, R, and/or SQL.

• Solid understanding of modern data engineering principles, practices, and patterns.

• Experience with Git, code reviews, testing, CI/CD, and deployment practices.

• Desirable: experience with data and analytics tools within Microsoft Fabric.

• Desirable: experience with agile project management methodologies such as Scrum.

• Desirable: experience in network location planning and catchment creation and analysis.

• Desirable: knowledge of geospatial data science methodologies like gravity modeling and catchment prediction.

• Candidates must have or be able to obtain the right to work in the UK; the employer cannot sponsor a Skilled Worker visa for this position.
