This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Deliver global strategic guidance, innovative solutions, medical writing expertise, and oversight for the Medical Writing FSP portfolio.
• Provide program-level and strategic oversight to one or more Medical Writing teams.
• Formulate and convey strategic vision, departmental objectives, and priorities.
• Recruit, engage, manage, train, mentor, and inspire staff members.
• Establish organizational structure and spearhead changes to departmental responsibilities, processes, and operations.
• Develop and oversee the departmental budget.
• Advocate for and promote the business needs of Medical Writing.
• Cultivate relationships with PPD departments and pinpoint cross-functional collaboration opportunities.
• Identify and develop business opportunities related to new Medical Writing projects.
• Collaborate with business development and senior management to secure new business through client presentations, contract negotiations, proposal texts, and budgets.
• Address or escalate significant project issues and risks to senior management.
• Compile reports regarding major project issues.
• Manage complex client-related issues while upholding the visibility and reputation of the Medical Writing group within PPD.
• A minimum of 15 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• At least 7 years of management experience.
• Advanced leadership capabilities.
• Strong skills in people management, including performance management, training, mentoring, directing, and motivating staff.
• Extensive business acumen and a thorough understanding of organizational and functional areas.
• Exceptional project management abilities, including organization, planning, budgeting, timeline development, resource allocation, and workload forecasting.
• In-depth knowledge of global and regional medical writing and regulatory requirements for clinical trials, marketing authorization, and late-phase procedures.
• Experience throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Capacity to contribute to and facilitate strategic planning.
• Effective communication skills, logical reasoning, and influence.
• Innovative leadership in the development of Medical Writing concepts and process enhancements.
• Ability to form teams, sustain collaborative relationships, initiate cross-functional mentoring, anticipate resistance, influence without authority, and maintain a senior-level presence.
• Proficiency in communicating, negotiating, engaging, and supporting potential clients and corporate leaders.
• Strong presentation abilities.
• Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, judgment, and decision-making skills.
• Self-motivated and adaptable.
