Forward Deployed Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Engage directly with customers to comprehend their workflows, challenges, data environments, and operational limitations.

• Contribute to both the main platform and customer-specific integrations by developing reusable product functionalities and tailoring them for deployment in client settings.

• Design and implement AI-driven applications, agents, and workflow automation utilizing AI/ML and LLM methodologies such as RAG, guardrails, and evaluations.

• Convert customer requirements into technical specifications, implementation strategies, and product insights for the core engineering team.

• Oversee the entire delivery process from prototype to production, which includes architecture, backend services, APIs, integrations, observability, testing, deployment, and customer acceptance.

• Integrate with customer systems, data sources, identity providers, and both cloud and on-premises infrastructures.

• Collaborate with product, engineering, security, and customer teams to guarantee that solutions are secure, reliable, auditable, and operationally effective.

• Troubleshoot issues in live environments and ensure rapid resolution across application, infrastructure, data, and integration layers.

• Operate with sound judgment in settings that involve sensitive data and critical business workflows.

• Divide time between enhancing Trase's core AI product and delivering solutions directly to customers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of software engineering experience, with a solid background in developing and deploying production-quality systems.

• Capability to implement AI and ML techniques, including LLM-based strategies such as RAG, guardrails, and evaluations, to address real-world customer challenges.

• Experience in scalable system design, ensuring that solutions can reliably grow with increasing usage, data, and complexity.

• Proficiency in backend engineering, distributed systems, APIs, data pipelines, cloud infrastructure, or applied AI/ML systems.

• Comfort with full-stack development when necessary, covering backend services, frontend interfaces, infrastructure, integrations, and deployment workflows.

• Ability to function effectively in ambiguous customer environments and translate unclear requirements into functional software.

• Strong technical communication skills for engaging with engineers, product teams, executives, and customer stakeholders.

• High sense of ownership, proactive nature, and capability to drive results without waiting for complete requirements.

• Excellent debugging skills and the ability to reason across application code, data, infrastructure, networking, and customer systems.

• Preferred: Previous experience as a full-stack or backend software engineer, forward-deployed engineer, solutions engineer, product engineer, platform engineer, or engineer in a startup.

• Preferred: Experience with AI agents, LLM applications, workflow orchestration, evaluations, guardrails, retrieval systems, or model deployment.

• Preferred: Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Preferred: Knowledge of Kubernetes, Terraform, Docker, CI/CD processes, observability, and secure deployment practices.

• Preferred: Understanding of identity and access management, audit logging, data governance, and secure software delivery.

• Preferred: Experience building in environments subject to compliance, security, or operational constraints.

• Preferred: Comfort in secure or regulated customer environments.
