Forward Deployed Engineer

📋 Description

• Take ownership of technical value realization for a portfolio of key customers, ensuring a smooth journey from initial live data to sustainable adoption and growth.

• Collaborate directly within customer environments and systems to gain insights into AI workflows, operational challenges, and consequential issues.

• Analyze traces using Origin's dashboard, SQL, ClickHouse, APIs, and MCP-based tools.

• Develop valuable findings and convert them into queries, canvases, dashboards, signals, integrations, workflows, prototypes, and production code.

• Lead technical discovery sessions with customer engineers, security teams, AI platform teams, and executives.

• Convert ambiguous business challenges into actionable technical tasks.

• Define and deliver tailored customer solutions while determining which aspects should evolve into core platform functionality.

• Design and implement custom telemetry integrations, data adapters, analytical logic, and comprehensive full-stack experiences.

• Collaborate with Deployment and Engineering teams to eliminate access, integration, reliability, and rollout obstacles.

• Draft technical specifications and contribute directly to Origin's codebase.

• Create measurable value narratives for customer interactions.

• Document reusable patterns and recurring challenges to inform Product and Engineering roadmap decisions.

• Assist in defining the operating model, tools, and standards for the Forward Deployed Engineering function.

• Travel may be required, up to approximately 20% of the time.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of five years of experience in building and delivering production software, data systems, security products, or complex enterprise solutions.

• Strong hands-on engineering skills across a combination of Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, Rust, APIs, backend systems, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure.

• Ability to independently explore unfamiliar, large datasets and identify significant signals within noisy operational data.

• Experience working directly with demanding enterprise customers and establishing credibility with hands-on engineers and senior executives.

• Capability to break down vague, high-level problems into technical decisions and deliverables.

• High agency and the ability to work independently in unfamiliar environments.

• Strong product judgment to distinguish between custom workarounds and reusable platform capabilities.

• Clear and direct communication skills with the ability to explain complex systems and link engineering efforts to customer outcomes.

• Sound judgment under pressure and the ability to make trade-offs regarding scope, speed, and quality.

• Strong follow-through and documentation capabilities.

• Genuine enthusiasm for collaborating with customers.

• Daily proficiency with modern AI development tools.

• Nice-to-have experience in forward deployed engineering, technical consulting, professional services, solutions engineering, or customer-facing solution delivery.

• Nice-to-have background as an early-stage startup, technical founder, or early engineer.

• Nice-to-have experience with dashboards, detections, analytical workflows, or high-volume event/telemetry data products.

• Nice-to-have experience related to enterprise identity, SSO, endpoint management, observability, SIEM/SOAR, cloud infrastructure, or security operations.

• Nice-to-have experience with AI agents, LLM applications, evaluation systems, MCP, model gateways, or agent observability.

• Nice-to-have fundamentals in Windows and/or macOS operating systems.

• Nice-to-have experience in security operations, incident response, red teaming, or EDR/XDR.

• Nice-to-have familiarity with AWS, GCP, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, or Terraform.

• Nice-to-have domain expertise in healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, supply chain, or technology.
