Forward Deployed Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Collaborate directly with operational users during field embeddings to convert mission challenges into viable software solutions.

• Review schemas, develop integration scripts, invoke REST APIs, analyze logs, and troubleshoot systems within restricted customer environments.

• Recognize repetitive field workarounds and partner with Product and Core Engineering to transform localized solutions into broader, reusable platform functionalities.

• Integrate Onebrief Core and Atom Engine with partner C2 systems, databases, and military data structures in intricate network settings.

• Perform failure-domain isolation in the field and compile escalations with reproduction steps, environmental conditions, logs, and root analysis.

• Collaborate on distributed software architecture concepts with engineers.

• Present briefings to senior military leaders or command staff regarding operational impact.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years in progressive software engineering, solutions engineering, or field software engineering with hands-on development experience.

• Strong proficiency in standard programming languages including Python, C++, C#, TypeScript, Go, or equivalent.

• Practical experience with REST/gRPC APIs, relational databases, data modeling, JSON/XML schemas, microservices, and cloud/edge infrastructure.

• Capability to analyze application logs, identify network or authentication issues across multiple systems, and determine root causes.

• Outstanding ability to articulate technical trade-offs and facilitate interactive working sessions with users.

• Active Secret clearance is required.

• Willingness to travel 25–50% of the time.

• Preference for candidates with prior experience as a Forward Deployed Engineer or Field Software Engineer in enterprise software or defense-tech sectors.

• Direct experience in building, deploying, or troubleshooting software within air-gapped DoD networks or classified environments is preferred.

• Familiarity with DoD software delivery, C2 systems, combatant command structures, operational planning workflows, or military data systems is a plus.

• Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility is preferred.

• Hands-on experience with modern AI-assisted development tools is preferred.
