Forward Deployed Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take full responsibility for the complete customer deployment process, from comprehending practice workflows to developing integrations and delivering the end product into production.

• Collaborate with both new and existing customer practices, both remotely and on-site, to thoroughly map workflows for prior authorization, referrals, and related processes.

• Design and manage integrations that link Ascertain’s agents to customer systems, which include EHR APIs, payer portals, fax and EDI, document intake, and various practice systems.

• Customize and enhance the agent platform for each customer, encompassing ontology, prompts, tools, guardrails, and escalation pathways.

• Solidify successful configurations into reusable frameworks.

• Troubleshoot production challenges involving data, prompts, APIs, UI, and associated human workflows.

• Act as the technical representative during customer interactions.

• Facilitate communication between clinical operations language and engineering terminology.

• Determine what to construct, configure, or decline.

• Share insights with product and platform teams to ensure that identified patterns become reusable.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience delivering production code in a commercial engineering capacity.

• Proficient in Python.

• Skilled in SQL, REST APIs, and at least one full-stack or front-end framework.

• Proven history of achieving results in environments where the problems were not fully defined, such as at early-stage startups, consulting, applied research, or in operations-heavy roles.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Capability to lead a working session with a non-technical practice manager and subsequently produce a clear specification.

• Openness to occasional travel to customer locations.

• Strongly preferred healthcare experience, including familiarity with EHRs, claims and EDI (X12 270/271, 278, 837), HL7/FHIR, payer portals, RCM, or prior authorization workflows.

• Preferred production experience with LLMs or agent frameworks, including prompt design, evaluations, tool usage, retrieval, and guardrails.

• Strongly preferred applied integration experience, including OAuth flows, webhook plumbing, browser automation, and PDF/document parsing.

• Prior experience as an embedded engineer directly working with enterprise customers is highly preferred.
