Forestry Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Perform timber cruising, marking, and layout/design of timber harvest units.

• Delineate and mark boundaries of units and stream zones.

• Gather and map data utilizing GIS/GPS technologies.

• Navigate uneven terrain on foot and drive 4x4 vehicles.

• Recognize hazard trees, signs of decay, disease, and defects.

• Work collaboratively with Registered Professional Foresters, Licensed Timber Operators, state and federal agencies, and landowners.

• Execute timber harvest plans effectively.

• Address and mitigate hazard trees.

• Restore landscapes affected by fire.

• Decrease hazardous fuel levels.

• Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned according to operational needs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in the use of GPS and handheld data collection devices such as Range Finders and Prisms.

• Strong understanding of tree biology, identification, and timber cruising techniques.

• Familiar with timber harvesting processes and the California Forest Practice Rules.

• Experienced with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Field Maps (ESRI), and FSCruiser software.

• Capable of navigating rural and forested regions with a compass.

• Detail-oriented, particularly regarding data accuracy and technical specifications.

• Must be able to hike three miles over uneven terrain while carrying up to 20 pounds within one hour.

• A clean driving record is required.

• Must pass a basic driving test administered by the company.

• Pre-employment screening for controlled substances is mandatory.

• Willingness to work 10-hour days and over 40 hours per week as needed.

• Prepared to travel overnight and share accommodations.
