Forensic Firearms – Toolmark Examination Expert

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil, +5 more countries.

📋 Description

• Review benchmark answers from AI models across 10 test cases related to forensic firearm and toolmark examinations.

• Evaluate the scientific accuracy, completeness, and reasoning behind responses concerning microscopic comparative ballistics and toolmark identification.

• Assess analyses related to firing pin impressions, breech face impressions, and various cartridge case markings.

• Examine the interpretation of bullet characteristics, rifling impressions, and associated ballistic evidence.

• Determine whether conclusions generated by AI are consistent with established forensic laboratory methodologies and AFTE standards.

• Identify technical errors, unsupported conclusions, and deficiencies in forensic reasoning.

• Provide comprehensive written and verbal feedback on model performance.

• Document recommendations for enhancing AI-generated forensic evaluations and technical explanations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Direct professional experience as a Forensic Firearms and Toolmark Examiner or in a comparable role conducting firearm and toolmark examinations.

• Practical experience with comparison microscopy and the analysis of bullets and cartridge cases.

• Proven expertise in the comparison, identification, and interpretation of bullets and toolmarks.

• Hands-on experience in examining firing pin impressions, breech face impressions, and other firearm-related toolmarks.

• Working knowledge of AFTE standards, relevant theories, and examination practices.

• Familiarity with forensic laboratory processes, documentation, and scientific reporting.

• Strong attention to detail and the capability to differentiate scientifically supported findings from unsupported interpretations.

• Excellent written communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex forensic concepts.
