Flight Nurse

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Deliver exceptional critical care, including assessment, triage, and treatment, during the transport of critically ill patients.

• Assess and prioritize care needed for secure transport to the appropriate medical facility.

• Administer nursing care from the initial contact until the patient is handed over to the receiving medical institution.

• Maintain comprehensive documentation of patient care.

• Uphold competencies and records in clinical, psychomotor, licensure, certification, continuing education, aviation, safety, OSHA, HIPAA, and advanced procedures.

• Operate and maintain aircraft medical equipment and supplies; report any equipment malfunctions and initiate repairs as instructed.

• Ensure onboard supplies are sufficient and keep the aircraft clean and organized for quick response.

• Participate in pre-mission briefings and debriefings, completing necessary documentation.

• Assist with pre-mission liftoff checklists and support the pilot with radio, navigation, and visual observation tasks as needed.

• Adhere to safety standards and conduct aircraft safety briefings when necessary.

• Act as a flight resource for neonatal/pediatric staff and perform approved advanced skills and procedures.

• Engage in patient follow-up and outreach marketing and educational activities with referring institutions.

• Mentor and/or orient new team members and students as assigned.

• Take part in meetings, activities, projects, committees, research, and publishing opportunities.

• Maintain regular attendance; travel approximately 5% of the time.

⛳️ Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.

• At least three (3) years of recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last five years or as mandated by state/local EMS regulations.

• Hold current RN license(s) for states of practice.

• EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations.

• Current Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications.

• PALS or equivalent certification if required by state or county.

• TPATC/TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced provider certification if mandated by state or county.

• Specialty certification (CFRN or CEN) must be obtained within 24 months of hire.

• One acceptable advanced trauma certification is required before completing third-rider training: TPATC, TNCC, ATCN, TNATC, or a CAMTS-approved advanced trauma course.

• NRP certification must be achieved before finishing third-rider orientation.

• Complete NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat before completing third-rider training.

• Weight must not exceed 225 pounds, including an empty flight suit and boots.

• Nursing skills must align with the assigned state's scope of practice and advanced practice skills defined by Medical Director(s) and Medical Standards.

• Capacity to work a flexible schedule, including overtime and 24/7 on-call rotation.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation abilities.

• Flight experience is not mandatory; however, pre-hospital experience is preferred, with flight experience considered an advantage.
