Flight Nurse

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Deliver exceptional critical care, including assessment, triage, and treatment during the transport of critically ill patients.

• Determine and prioritize the necessary care for secure transport to the appropriate medical facility.

• Provide nursing care from the moment of initial contact until the responsibility is transferred to the accepting medical facility.

• Maintain comprehensive patient care documentation.

• Keep up-to-date records on clinical practices, licensure, certification, continuing education, aviation, safety, OSHA, HIPAA, and advanced procedures.

• Utilize and maintain aircraft medical equipment and supplies; report malfunctions and initiate repairs as instructed.

• Ensure adequate onboard supplies and maintain the aircraft in a clean and orderly condition.

• Attend pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings, completing all necessary documentation.

• Assist with liftoff checklists and support the pilot with radio communications, navigation, and visual monitoring tasks.

• Adhere to safety standards and conduct aircraft safety briefings as required.

• Act as a flight resource for neonatal/pediatric personnel and execute approved advanced skills and procedures.

• Engage in patient and referring institution follow-up as well as outreach marketing and educational initiatives.

• Mentor and/or orient new employees and students as assigned.

• Participate in meetings, activities, projects, committees, research, and opportunities for publishing.

• Maintain regular attendance; travel approximately 5% of the time.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.

• At least three (3) years of recent critical care or emergency nursing experience within the past five years, or as mandated by state/local EMS regulations.

• Current RN license(s) for the states in which practice is performed.

• EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations.

• Current Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS, or equivalent certifications as required.

• Current TPATC/TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced provider certification if required by state or county.

• CFRN or CEN specialty certification must be obtained within 24 months of hire.

• Complete TPATC, TNCC, ATCN, TNATC, or CAMTS-approved advanced trauma course before finishing third-rider training.

• NRP certification must be achieved before the end of third-rider orientation.

• Complete NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat prior to finishing third-rider training.

• Weight must not exceed 225 pounds, including an empty flight suit and boots.

• Nursing skills must align with the assigned state scope of practice and advanced practice skills defined by Medical Director(s) and Medical Standards.

• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime and a 24/7 on-call rotation.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

• Pre-hospital experience is preferred; flight experience is an advantage.

• A Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field is preferred but not mandatory.
