Financial Controller – AI Enabled Finance Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and consistently enhance the internal control framework across P2P, O2C, payroll, and expenses.

• Conduct a regular monthly operational hygiene review.

• Provide a final review of management accounts, revenue recognition, and AP runs.

• Execute the first review of monthly payroll prior to Head of Finance approval.

• Manage monthly workings for internally developed costs and ensure effective audit controls are in place.

• Oversee cash flow forecasting and treasury, including the final approval of bank payments.

• Offer senior-level judgment and support regarding complex questions related to revenue recognition, AP, and cost management.

• Maintain escalation relationships for banking inquiries, calls, and vendor/software management.

• Govern the finance function's AI utilization policy.

• Optimize finance operations by utilizing AI technologies.

• Develop the controls and process framework as Pencil expands.

• Ensure the monthly close, cash flow forecasting, audit controls, AP, revenue recognition, capex, and AI workflow automation achieve success criteria.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be a qualified accountant with UK experience (ACCA, ACA, or CIMA).

• A minimum of 5 years in finance, including at least 2 years in an industry setting.

• Proven experience managing financial controls and processes in a fast-growing business, preferably in SaaS or technology sectors.

• Proficient in independently managing cash flow, including authorization of bank payments.

• History of making and upholding senior judgment calls (accruals, revenue treatment, risk) rather than merely reviewing others' contributions.

• Comfortable using modern finance tools (Xero, ApprovalMax, Maxio, or similar).

• Proven skills in AI to enhance finance workflows and overall efficiency.
