This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Assist with financial activities across multiple programs and contracts.
• Deliver data-informed management support and financial analysis to internal clients.
• Evaluate grants and contracts to comprehend budgetary constraints.
• Oversee, prepare, review, and manage invoicing and advances related to grants and contracts.
• Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual expense reports for various grants and contracts.
• Create and process journal entries for expenditures associated with grants and contracts.
• Track subrecipient fiscal compliance and the responsible use of awarded funds.
• Organize the collection, preparation, and submission of subrecipient financial documents to funders.
• Conduct closeout procedures for grants and contracts following project completion and fulfillment of funder stipulations.
• Execute ad hoc projects as requested by finance and executive leadership.
• Review monthly grant spend-downs of available funds.
• Support the annual and midyear budget creation process, including tool development and data collection from programs.
• Engage with program directors to anticipate significant budget discrepancies.
• Identify necessary budget adjustments and facilitate the budget modification process.
• Prepare financial pro formas and budgets for funding and grant applications.
• Suggest and implement enhancements to financial processes and procedures.
• Assist with the annual audit process.
• Develop and maintain documentation for relevant processes and procedures.
• Participate in reflective supervision sessions.
• Coordinate and oversee volunteers or interns as required.
• Collaborate with the Finance team, organizational directors, external partners, and funders.
• Report directly to the Budget and Grants Director.
• BA/BS degree in accounting, finance, a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in financial analysis, subrecipient monitoring, and budgeting.
• Ideally, experience in the nonprofit sector with compliance reporting for local, state, and federal requirements.
• Previous experience in nonprofit organization management, contract administration, budgeting, and fundraising.
• Proficiency in creating complex financial models, forecasts, and reports.
• Preferred knowledge of regulatory requirements for state and federal funding streams.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Experience with database applications.
• Understanding of nonprofit accounting principles.
• Thorough knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment, and techniques.
• Exceptional organizational, managerial, and communication abilities.
• Capacity to plan and achieve annual goals and objectives.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
• Proficiency in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
• Capability to present information and answer questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
• Ability to perform calculations and apply basic algebra and geometry.
• Skill in solving practical problems and interpreting written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team while managing multiple projects and priorities.
• Genuine interest in immigrant and farm worker rights.
