This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Manage daily finance operations, including reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, payroll entries, and balance-sheet accounts.
• Generate quarterly financial reports and consolidated restricted/unrestricted statements for the CEO and Board.
• Lead the year-end financial closing process and audit preparation, ensuring compliance with fiscal year-end requirements.
• Maintain both organizational and project budgets; create budget-to-actual reports and identify variances.
• Prepare and review funder claims and reports, confirming eligibility, documentation, and adherence to deadlines.
• Ensure accurate allocation of shared costs, salaries, and benefits across various projects.
• Oversee payroll processing, remittances, and benefit allocations in accordance with funding agreements.
• Monitor cash flow, banking activities, and short-term financial forecasts.
• Supervise the junior accountant, review their daily work, provide guidance and feedback, and assist in their professional development.
• Serve as the primary finance contact throughout the contract; provide the CEO, Directors, and project leads with clear and practical financial guidance.
• Encourage consistent financial practices and accountability within the organization.
• Handle sensitive financial and employee information with confidentiality.
• Undertake additional finance-related responsibilities as required by the CEO.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
• Engage in a transition period with the current Director of Finance and facilitate a handover before the contract concludes.
• CPA designation (or in progress), with over 5 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance.
• Proven experience in managing organizational and project budgets, as well as funder claims and reporting under government, corporate, or philanthropic agreements.
• Proficient in QuickBooks Online and Excel.
• Experience in nonprofit, Indigenous organizations, or project-funded environments is highly beneficial.
• Highly organized, effective communicator, and capable of working independently while recognizing when to escalate issues.
