This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee daily accounting and financial operations
• Direct the monthly and year-end closing processes, which include journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and allocations
• Manage the general ledger to ensure transactions are accurate, well-supported, and correctly classified
• Generate monthly financial statements and management reports
• Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, vendor payments, billings, collections, and reconciliations
• Prepare and validate bank and balance-sheet account reconciliations
• Direct payroll accounting and personnel cost allocations
• Assist in monitoring cash flow and treasury operations
• Organize annual financial statement audits and other fiscal reviews
• Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate audit requirements
• Manage tax and regulatory filings, including Forms 1099 and 1096
• Keep comprehensive financial records and supporting documentation
• Aid in the development of annual budgets, rolling forecasts, cash-flow projections, and long-term financial strategies
• Evaluate budget-to-actual results, trends, and variances
• Support scenario planning and conduct financial analyses
• Supervise financial management for grants and contracts
• Handle accounting for both restricted and unrestricted funds
• Review grant and contract expenditures for compliance, allocation, budget availability, and allowability
• Monitor budgets and spending for grants and contracts
• Collaborate on grant proposals, budgets, revisions, and financial reporting
• Offer training and guidance on financial compliance processes
• Develop partnerships with Business Development, Program, Human Resources, and Operations teams
• Convert financial information into actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders
• Enhance and maintain accounting systems, workflows, and processes
• Assist in the implementation, integration, and optimization of financial systems
• Establish and uphold financial policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Identify opportunities for automation and enhancements in data quality
• Ensure consistent application of financial policies and controls
• Report directly to the Chief Financial Officer
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required
• CPA or an advanced degree is preferred
• At least eight (8) years of progressive experience in accounting and financial management
• Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
• Experience with restricted funding, grant and contract accounting, functional expense reporting, and cost allocations
• Proven experience leading month-end and year-end closing processes, as well as preparing accurate financial statements and management reports
• Familiarity with supporting annual financial statement audits, including preparing audit schedules and supporting documentation
• Knowledge of grant and contract financial management, including budgeting, expenditure monitoring, cost allocations, personnel time allocation, and funder reporting requirements
• Strong understanding of internal controls and demonstrated experience in enhancing accounting processes, policies, systems, and workflows
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Experience with cloud-based accounting and financial systems
• Familiarity with platforms such as Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online, Ramp, Paylocity, Martus, or similar is preferred
