This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.
• Act as a technical liaison between 3M and clients for optical interconnect solutions, focusing on optical fiber technologies and expanded beam optics.
• Assist customers in design-in initiatives for fiber optic connectivity, optical transport, and high-speed communication systems.
• Offer technical advice on product selection, application suitability, system integration, and performance enhancement.
• Promote the adoption of 3M interconnect solutions by comprehending customer architectures, technical specifications, and future roadmap needs.
• Work collaboratively with product development, R&D, manufacturing, quality, and marketing teams to convey customer requirements and influence product strategy.
• Facilitate technical discussions, product demonstrations, evaluations, and troubleshooting for both optical and copper interconnect applications.
• Aid in qualification processes by creating test plans, analyzing results, and confirming customer requirements.
• Address field and application challenges through proactive technical problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration.
• Provide guidance on product design, manufacturing methods, and process capabilities.
• Contribute to technical documentation, application notes, customer presentations, and training resources.
• Keep abreast of industry trends, competitive technologies, and emerging standards.
• Ensure that technical claims in customer-facing communications are accurate and substantiated.
• Adhere to corporate policies, procedures, security protocols, and safety regulations.
• A Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified before employment begins).
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a customer-facing technical, applications engineering, systems engineering, or product support position.
• At least two (2) years of experience with high-speed interconnect technologies, including optical fiber and/or copper connectivity solutions.
• A current, valid Driver’s License.
• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
• Five (5) or more years of experience in optical connectivity for communication systems.
• In-depth knowledge of optical fiber interconnects, transceiver connectivity, cable assemblies, and data center optical infrastructure.
• Experience in process engineering or development for optical, fiber optic, or precision interconnect technologies.
• Proficiency in transferring technical knowledge and providing technical training related to production processes.
• Familiarity with data center systems architecture, networking, AI infrastructure, and high-performance computing environments.
• Experience with interpreting industry standards, qualification criteria, and testing methodologies related to fiber optic and electrical interconnect components.
• Experience utilizing optical test equipment and characterizing the performance of optical or interconnect systems.
• Ability to assess customer requirements and translate them into application guidance and product suggestions.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities in customer and field settings.
• Experience in creating and delivering technical presentations.
• Excellent communication skills, encompassing verbal, written, and presentation abilities.
• Capacity to work effectively with global, cross-functional teams.
