Field Application Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Act as the technical lead for consulting engineers, end users, EPC, and design-build customers.

• Ensure that ABB products and solutions attain preferred or acceptable manufacturer status in project specifications.

• Collaborate with consultants, end users, utilities, EPC/DBC firms, and engineering teams to develop and specify ABB low- and medium-voltage power distribution solutions.

• Offer design support, product selection, value engineering, budgeting, and technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle.

• Create and review electrical system designs, one-line diagrams, schematics, layouts, equipment specifications, and budget estimates.

• Serve as the subject matter expert for MV/LV switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, motor control, UPS, ATS, PSG, and power monitoring solutions.

• Drive technical engagement and customer education initiatives through presentations, Lunch & Learns, and industry thought leadership.

• Mentor Field Application Engineers and provide advanced support on power system studies, including short-circuit, coordination, and arc flash mitigation analyses using SKM and EasyPower.

• Assess project technical, financial, and risk factors.

• Advocate for assigned product lines and utilize Salesforce (SFDC).

• Relay customer insights, market trends, product opportunities, and competitive gaps to commercial and product management leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably Electrical) with at least 8 years of experience in engineering (electrical distribution industry preferred) OR a Master’s degree in engineering with 4 years of experience in the same field.

• Familiarity with industry codes and standards such as ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, NFPA 70E, UL preferred.

• Proficient in the application of MV/LV switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, and arc flash mitigation technologies.

• Strong interpersonal skills, capable of considering multiple perspectives and resolving technical issues.

• Fluent in English (both spoken and written).

• Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time and regularly visit customers in the local area.

• Ability to establish and maintain partnership relationships with the regional engineering consulting community is essential.

• Candidates must possess work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in the US.
