Fall Law Clerk

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Collaborate closely with staff attorneys on various aspects of MPLP’s operations

• Conduct interviews with clients

• Prepare legal pleadings

• Engage in legal research and writing for specific cases as well as broader policy matters

• Represent clients in court hearings in accordance with the Michigan student practice rule

• Evaluate legal challenges

• Provide legal guidance through both oral and written communication

• Organize educational seminars for clients

• Monitor and assess legislative developments

• Contribute to systemic advocacy initiatives in areas of poverty law, including housing, public benefits, consumer rights, foreclosure, family law, and racial justice

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be an active law student

• Required to have completed at least one year of law school

• Must reside in Michigan during the tenure with MSAS

• Experience in working with low-income individuals is advantageous

• A commitment to supporting underserved communities is beneficial

• Submission of a resume and cover letter is required

• Availability to work 10–20 hours per week from September 1–December 11, 2026
