This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.
• Oversee the editorial development of CIEE’s High School Summer Abroad Language & Culture curriculum portfolio across various languages.
• Define product specifications, editorial standards, development guidelines, quality benchmarks, and workflows.
• Convert academic priorities into curriculum structure, which includes scope and sequence, lessons, assessments, materials for both students and instructors, and implementation support.
• Lead the creation of prototypes and decide on standardization or localization across different sites and languages.
• Manage curriculum development projects from initial concept to final delivery, encompassing manuscript creation, field reviews, revisions, quality assurance, and implementation support.
• Design and oversee editorial workflows, schedules, contributor assignments, feedback cycles, style guidelines, manuscript expectations, and review procedures.
• Source, onboard, and supervise freelance editors across languages and program locations.
• Offer editorial guidance and feedback on manuscripts to editors and contributors.
• Assess manuscripts for learning progression, task design, cognitive load, feasibility, pacing, cultural authenticity, linguistic accuracy, style, and overall quality.
• Identify project risks, bottlenecks, scope issues, and conflicting feedback; make decisions that safeguard quality and timelines.
• Manage copyright and permissions for authentic resources, including images, texts, audio, and video.
• Collaborate with Academics, Sales, Marketing, international staff, instructors, reviewers, and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to annual instructor training through Canvas training and live virtual workshops.
• Develop or review training materials and assist instructors facing curriculum and implementation challenges.
• Utilize qualitative and quantitative data to assess curriculum effectiveness and suggest enhancements.
• Investigate trends in K–12 world language education, educational publishing, international education, language assessment, and instructional technology.
• Provide expertise for teacher-facing professional development events, initiatives, and resources.
• Travel approximately 2–3 times a year.
• Bachelor’s degree in applied linguistics, second language acquisition, curriculum and instruction, world language education, educational publishing, or a related field.
• At least 7–10 years of editorial experience in educational publishing.
• Significant experience in K–12 world language education is highly preferred.
• Proven track record in leading the editorial development of curriculum products from concept to final delivery.
• Experience in establishing product specifications, managing manuscripts, directing contributors, and ensuring quality control.
• Familiarity with developing or overseeing standards-aligned curriculum across multiple languages.
• Proficient in creating scope and sequence documents, lesson plans, and materials for both students and teachers.
• Experience in managing and developing staff, leading teams of 4–6 contributors.
• Comprehensive understanding of world language pedagogy, including ACTFL proficiency guidelines, communicative language teaching, task-based learning, authentic resources, and proficiency-oriented instruction.
• Professional fluency in Spanish is required.
• Excellent written communication skills in English.
• Experience in managing writers, editors, freelancers, external contributors, reviewers, or cross-functional teams.
• Strong project management capabilities, including schedules, workflows, documentation, feedback cycles, and quality-control processes.
• Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
• High school world language teaching experience is strongly preferred.
• Proven experience in creating and managing resources within Google Drive is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with language proficiency assessment data, such as STAMP, ACTFL-aligned assessments, or other proficiency-based measures is strongly preferred.
• Experience in supporting teacher training, professional development, or curriculum implementation is strongly preferred.
• A background check and verification of education and employment are mandatory conditions of employment.
