Environmental Scientist – Industrial Hygienist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Conduct environmental assessments and evaluations of hazardous building materials, including asbestos, lead-based paint, mold, and other environmental issues.

• Execute air, bulk, wipe, and surface sampling in compliance with federal and state regulations, project specifications, and industry best practices.

• Support and carry out indoor air quality assessments, moisture intrusion investigations, and evaluations of building conditions independently.

• Oversee abatement, remediation, and demolition projects on-site, including conducting final visual inspections and clearance sampling.

• Develop comprehensive technical reports, field documentation, and project deliverables that meet regulatory standards.

• Coordinate laboratory analyses, evaluate analytical results, and assist clients and project teams in interpreting findings.

• Ensure adherence to relevant OSHA, EPA, AHERA, Massachusetts DEP, and local regulatory standards.

• Manage project timelines, handle multiple assignments simultaneously, and provide project updates to managers and clients.

• Assist in proposal efforts, cultivate client relationships, and mentor junior staff as experience allows.

• Engage in health and safety planning and foster a strong safety culture throughout all project activities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related field.

• 3+ years of professional experience in environmental consulting, industrial hygiene, hazardous building materials, or related environmental field services.

• Proven experience in conducting inspections and sampling for asbestos, lead, and mold.

• In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations and industry-standard sampling techniques.

• Experience in preparing technical reports and maintaining defensible project documentation.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Capability to independently manage field assignments and willingness to travel across Massachusetts and the broader Northeast region as necessary.

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving history.

• Preferred: Certification as a Massachusetts Asbestos Inspector.

• Preferred: Certification as a Massachusetts Asbestos Project Monitor.

• Preferred: Certification as a Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor and/or Lead Sampling Technician.

• Preferred: Completion of NIOSH 582 Microscopy Training.

• Preferred: OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.

• Preferred: Pursuing or interested in a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) track or other professional certifications.

• Preferred: Experience working with healthcare, higher education, life sciences, commercial real estate, or municipal clients.
