English to Urdu Linguist, Freelance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pakistan.

📋 Description

• Conduct LQA evaluations in accordance with quality standards and production schedules.

• Manage arbitrations and promote linguistic consensus.

• Update glossaries and translation memories within the Smartling platform.

• Facilitate the exchange of client review feedback and oversee its implementation.

• Process linguistic feedback from QA assessments and enact necessary changes.

• Offer linguistic and cultural guidance to clients.

• Collaborate with Language Specialists and translation teams to provide constructive feedback and enhance language quality.

• Engage with client stakeholders to address linguistic issues and deliver clear, evidence-based consultation.

• Organize reference materials, training documents, and meeting notes.

• Respond to linguistic inquiries following query management protocols.

• Monitor language quality through LQA reports, addressing issues and highlighting quality risks.

• Participate in internal and external root-cause analyses and quality enhancement initiatives.

• Evaluate and recommend asset enhancements with consideration for end-user impact, time, and cost.

• Prioritize and monitor quality management tasks based on urgency, impact, and client requirements.

• Supervise linguistic tasks, manage quality assurance efforts, and mentor linguists.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, Translation Studies, Language Arts, or a related discipline.

• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in translation, localization, or linguistic services.

• At least 2 years of experience as a Language Lead or in a Senior Linguist role.

• Native or near-native proficiency in Urdu-Pakistan.

• Strong command of English (additional language proficiency is a plus).

• Familiarity with translation and localization tools, including CAT tools and TMS systems.

• Comprehensive understanding of linguistic quality assurance processes.

• Exceptional attention to detail coupled with strong problem-solving abilities.

• Outstanding communication and leadership skills.

• Ability to collaborate effectively in a multicultural environment.

• Flexibility to work on various content types, including sensitive material, music, video, genre, and domain.

• Experience in the localization/translation sector with a global Music Service provider is preferred.

• Knowledge of the cultural and regional linguistic subtleties of Pakistan is preferred.

• Certification in translation or localization tools is advantageous.
