Engineering Manager – Platform Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Define and take ownership of the long-term technical strategy and actionable roadmap for Platform Systems.

• Establish engineering excellence benchmarks for AIMS, encompassing observability, reliability practices, on-call responsibilities, and engineering standards.

• Manage the observability, evaluation, and tooling subsystems that support Netflix’s next-generation ML architecture.

• Integrate subsystems into daily engineering workflows to minimize development friction.

• Recruit, develop, and retain engineers across various seniority levels.

• Create an environment that fosters the growth of technical contributors into senior leadership roles.

• Collaborate with directors from AIMS and infrastructure teams on strategic planning and investment initiatives.

• Lead the modernization of the AI stack, including migration pathways and cross-functional collaboration.

• Navigate through uncertainties in platform engineering, ML infrastructure, and organizational transformations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in leading platform or infrastructure engineering organizations that operate distributed systems at scale.

• Strong technical expertise in distributed systems.

• Practical experience in building subsystems for advanced agentic architectures, such as memory, trace, evaluation, replay, orchestration, or routing pipelines.

• Experience with large-scale ML infrastructure, covering both online and offline model training pipelines.

• Proven history of building high-performing engineering teams and nurturing senior technical talent.

• Demonstrated success in enhancing system reliability, lowering infrastructure costs, and increasing engineering velocity at scale.

• A developer productivity mindset aimed at eliminating friction, automating repetitive tasks, and enhancing engineering tools and systems.

• Capability to operate at the intersection of engineering strategy and organizational leadership.

• Ability to exert influence without direct authority across a large organization.

• High tolerance for ambiguity and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Proven experience in driving large, cross-functional technical programs from strategy to execution.

• Familiarity with contemporary AI/ML infrastructure patterns, including feature stores, model serving platforms, and experimentation frameworks.

• Knowledge of personalization systems or recommendation platforms.
