Engineering Manager – Merchant & API

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee, mentor, recruit, and develop the Merchants & Integrations engineering team.

• Take ownership of the reliability, quality, and strategic direction of merchant-facing APIs, payment applications, and platform integrations.

• Sustain a thorough understanding of the data model and payment workflows.

• Evaluate design and architectural choices while helping the team overcome challenging issues.

• Participate in sales and integration discussions, acting as the engineering representative to merchants, partners, and potential clients.

• Convert merchant requirements into technically viable solutions and define the scope for integrations.

• Collaborate with Sales, Partnerships, Product, and Engineering teams to enhance integration efficiency, compliance, and unique offerings.

• Enhance team planning, delivery, and support mechanisms.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in managing a software engineering team.

• Successful history as a senior individual contributor or technical lead in payments or integrations, prepared to transition into management.

• Profound technical expertise in backend systems, APIs, and data modeling.

• Practical experience with payments and/or e-commerce integration tasks, including payment gateways, checkout processes, and third-party platforms.

• Comfortable engaging with customers in technical integration and sales discussions.

• Ability to balance speed, reliability, and compliance effectively.

• Background in a payments company or a similar fintech/payments setting.

• Knowledge of Shopify Payments, the Shopify payment gateway model, BigCommerce, and related platforms.

• Experience with regulated or compliance-intensive payment processes.

• Proven track record of scaling an integrations or partner-engineering team.

• Proficiency in Python/Django/Postgres.
