Manager, Engineering – Payments

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Oversee the daily operations of an engineering team, focusing on planning, prioritization, delivery, and ongoing process enhancements.

• Offer technical and architectural guidance for payment orchestration, ledger and reconciliation systems, as well as integrations with banks or PSPs.

• Collaborate with Product, Compliance, Risk, and Solutions Engineering teams to establish roadmaps and facilitate cross-border payouts, managed stablecoin settlements, and bulk payment functionalities.

• Take responsibility for the engineering delivery of significant Payments initiatives, which include the expansion of regulated and managed payments.

• Effectively coordinate efforts between teams in India and the US.

• Ensure the reliability, security, operational readiness, and financial accuracy of critical payment systems.

• Lead incident response efforts and establish on-call practices.

• Recruit, mentor, and develop engineering talent.

• Manage performance assessments, career development, feedback, and promotion processes for direct reports.

• Propel engineering objectives in alignment with geographic expansion, transaction growth, customer experience, and dependable market launches across APAC and Africa.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in software engineering.

• At least 2 years of experience in managing or leading software engineering teams.

• Proven experience in designing, building, and operating distributed, highly available backend systems in live production settings.

• Background in developing or managing payment, banking, or financial transaction systems, including payment orchestration, ledgers, reconciliation, or settlement.

• Strong hands-on technical leadership abilities, encompassing architecture reviews, system design, discussions on technical trade-offs, and code-level mentoring.

• Proficient in one or more backend programming languages such as Java, Go, or Kotlin.

• Experience in recruiting, mentoring, developing, and managing performance for engineers, including senior-level individual contributors.

• Excellent cross-functional collaboration abilities and a proven track record of partnering with Product, Compliance, Risk, and external financial partners.

• Availability for regular working hours that overlap with US-based teams.

• Preferred: experience with cross-border payments, correspondent banking, stablecoins, blockchain-based settlement rails, or integrations with banks and PSPs.

• Preferred: familiarity with KYC/KYB, Travel Rule requirements, transaction monitoring, and regulated payments environments.
