This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead a group of 8 to 12 engineers.
• Oversee hiring, development, performance management, retention, and project delivery.
• Assist the team in adopting Brandt's engineering standards while enhancing planning, building, and shipping practices.
• Determine the application of the Brandt Operating Model, including planning rhythms, review methodologies, and AI workflow integration.
• Manage hiring decisions within Brandt's structured recruitment process.
• Collaborate with fellow Engineering Managers to continuously refine the engineering operating model.
• Maintain and oversee the team's technical debt backlog in conjunction with Tech Leads.
• Plan maintenance alongside feature development, making deferred maintenance costs transparent, and escalate instances of repeated delays.
• Contribute to Tech Leads' reviews and help formulate company-wide engineering standards alongside the Chief Engineer.
• Establish predictable delivery through small-batch planning, early risk identification, and scope renegotiation.
• Design work verification processes to ensure review and testing keep pace with production output.
• Conduct regular one-on-ones, provide timely feedback, create development plans, and manage performance fairly.
• Adopt and enhance Brandt's delivery standards.
• Hold engineers accountable for maintaining quality.
• Advocate for engineers' promotions, specialties, and stretch roles.
• Enhance delivery metrics and question metrics that no longer reflect the current situation.
• Utilize AI throughout the planning, development, testing, and delivery phases while maintaining accountability for released work.
• Assess success through team-level throughput, quality, reliability, hiring, retention, and engineer growth outcomes.
• Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder.
• Proven experience leading a team of 8 to 12 engineers while managing both personnel and delivery commitments.
• Capability to identify the true constraint in a delivery system, articulate the evidence, and recognize when an assessment was incorrect.
• Experience in reducing deferred maintenance while continuing product shipping.
• Proven ability to change team workflows and communicate results, trade-offs, and negative outcomes.
• Hands-on experience with agentic development workflows.
• Evidence of understanding where AI is beneficial and where it falls short, including identifying plausible but incorrect AI-generated work and explaining necessary adjustments.
• Ability to recount a recent change in perspective regarding the role of AI in engineering tasks.
• Proficient in writing actionable documentation, providing timely feedback, and supporting professional growth.
• Commitment to careful decision-making and early risk communication.
• Helpful: experience leading changes in delivery models such as agile transformation, platform migration, or a shift to engineer-owned quality.
• Helpful: experience across multiple product domains or business lines.
• Helpful: experience with regulated, procurement-driven, or public-sector clients.
• No specific years of experience or degree required; demonstrated behaviors are highly valued.
