Engineering Manager, Guest & Host – Host Listings, Quality

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the Insights Platform responsible for advising hosts on enhancing earnings, quality, and listings.

• Manage a team of senior and staff engineers specializing in data engineering, machine learning, and backend engineering.

• Establish and steer the long-term technical strategy and architecture.

• Collaborate with leaders in Product, Design, and Data Science to define platform strategy.

• Spearhead the development of robust, high-performing, and scalable systems for insight generation, personalization, cross-channel delivery, and assessment.

• Contribute to the team’s roadmap and technical direction.

• Persuade stakeholders to embrace team objectives and roadmaps.

• Spot opportunities for enhancement and champion best practices.

• Engage in hands-on development, including design and code evaluations.

• Mentor, guide, and facilitate the career advancement of individual contributors.

• Propel the platform's transformation from batch processing to real-time functionality and from rules-based systems to model-driven approaches, incorporating AI-assisted insight generation and personalization.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience within the technology sector.

• At least 5 years of experience in an Engineering Manager position, with accountability for large-scale software systems.

• Strong product judgment informed by data analysis.

• Proven history of establishing and maintaining a multi-year technical trajectory on a critical live platform.

• Experience leading significant re-architecture or transitions, such as moving from batch to real-time or from rules-based to model-driven systems, while continuing to deliver results.

• In-depth knowledge of backend, data, or machine learning platforms.

• Capability to comprehend and represent data engineering, machine learning, and backend engineering.

• Familiarity with distributed systems, data pipelines, and real-time or streaming architectures.

• Experience implementing machine learning and large language models in production to customize or rank user experiences.

• Proficiency in utilizing experimentation and assessment to validate impact.

• Experience in managing and developing senior and staff engineers.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Proven ability to establish shared standards and align multiple teams and organizations around a unified platform strategy.
