Engineering Manager – Forward Deployed Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Lead, coach, recruit, and oversee a high-achieving Forward Deployed Engineering team.

• Integrate engineers within business units while upholding centralized technical standards and reporting mechanisms.

• Create and sustain the FDE technical operating playbook, which encompasses intake standards, routing rules, reusable delivery models, and the engagement lifecycle.

• Develop repeatable frameworks for intake routing, priority assessment, and graduation gateways.

• Align engineers, product owners, business sponsors, and executive partners on technical standards, priorities, and strategic roadmaps.

• Advocate for reusable assets, developer tools, ADK/SDK patterns, internal asset marketplaces, and industry best practices.

• Establish technical standards for AI agents and automation using enterprise frameworks such as Databricks, Gemini Enterprise, Claude, and Airtable.

• Manage security, compliance, AI cost telemetry, and lifecycle management from prototype to production or retirement.

• Convert business challenges into technical requirements and guide business units on effective technology collaboration.

• Provide reports on FDE capacity, outcomes, and aggregate AI expenditures to leadership.

• Define success metrics and manage intake SLAs, reuse, and outcomes as demand increases.

• Report to the Director of FDE & AI Optimization and collaborate with Data Engineers, Product Owners, and business sponsors.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in software engineering, solution architecture, data engineering, or AI/ML delivery.

• 2+ years in a management role overseeing engineers.

• Proven experience leading teams in a Forward Deployed Engineering, technical consulting, or heavily matrixed setting.

• Experience in defining, scaling, and maintaining operational playbooks, intake standards, routing, and reusable delivery frameworks.

• Capability to translate ambiguous processes into clear, repeatable frameworks.

• Experience promoting reusable assets, developer tooling, ADK/SDK patterns, and best practices.

• Proven track record in managing operational governance across the delivery lifecycle, including compliance, cost telemetry, and production graduation.

• Extensive knowledge of modern LLM ecosystems, agentic workflows, and cloud data platforms such as Databricks, Gemini, Claude, and Cursor.

• Ability to differentiate between short-term optimization opportunities and initiatives that require a product roadmap.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.

• Experience in measuring engineering ROI and managing costs related to vendors, licensing, or infrastructure in production settings.

• Proven experience in implementing intake and routing models within matrixed organizations.

• Hands-on experience delivering agents, automation, or internal platforms utilizing Databricks, Gemini Enterprise, Claude, Airtable, and/or Cursor.

• Experience in establishing reuse paths and standards for production ownership.

• Background in the music, media, or entertainment industry is a plus.

• Comfortable operating in a player-coach capacity.
