Engineering Manager, Experience Services

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take charge of architecture design, delivery, and the roadmap for a dedicated engineering team.

• Collaborate with Product to define, commit to, and execute the roadmap.

• Oversee engineering results for cart, checkout, order, billing, and authentication systems within Managed Hosting and Managed Applications.

• Develop a deep understanding of customer needs, architecture, dependencies, integrations, and operational risks.

• Ensure the long-term health and development of the products under your responsibility.

• Create specifications, assess pull requests, and implement real code changes.

• Facilitate and advocate for the daily use of AI-assisted engineering tools and methodologies.

• Define and estimate tasks, identify unknowns, manage monthly delivery cycles, and provide honest status updates.

• Resolve cross-team engineering dependencies proactively to prevent delivery obstacles.

• Enhance DORA performance by minimizing review latency, build time, environmental issues, handoffs, and approval processes.

• Mandate testing with every code change, enforce coverage gating on modified code, and require evidence in pull requests.

• Make informed release go/no-go decisions based on concrete evidence.

• Conduct one-on-one meetings, maintain growth plans, and offer direct feedback.

• Oversee the entire hiring process from start to finish.

• Manage on-call rotations, follow up on incidents, reduce toil, and address bus-factor risks.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years in software engineering, with at least one year in a formal or informal leadership role.

• Proficient technical skills in Perl, PHP, React, and Vue.

• Experience with relational databases, such as Postgres and MariaDB.

• Familiarity with commerce systems and payment processing integrations.

• Currently hands-on with coding and have recently deployed code.

• Ability to review AI-generated code pull requests and pinpoint issues.

• Proven, hands-on experience with AI-assisted engineering that demonstrates measurable impact.

• Track record of making a team significantly more efficient.

• Knowledge of DORA metrics or a similar framework, including the identification and improvement of bottlenecks.

• Experience in delivering and modernizing software to meet committed timelines through collaborative scoping and data-driven forecasting.

• Experience managing a production on-call rotation.

• Experience overseeing the complete hiring process while maintaining high hiring standards.

• Experience leading engineers across different time zones.

• Background in managed hosting, cloud services, or any high-availability service sector is essential.
