Engineering Manager, DevEx

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +2 more countries.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with engineering leadership to pinpoint areas of developer friction and identify platform opportunities.

• Assess success by evaluating deployment speed, system reliability, platform adoption, and developer productivity.

• Direct architecture and technical strategy for the Internal Developer Platform, deployment workflows, and cloud infrastructure.

• Create reusable patterns, self-service tools, and robust guardrails.

• Provide platform engineers with context, decision frameworks, and meaningful ownership.

• Promote automation-first methodologies, minimize manual tasks, and establish scalable self-service options.

• Enhance the frequency and safety of platform deliveries.

• Standardize workflows, boost observability, and integrate operational excellence.

• Recruit, mentor, and retain platform and software engineers.

• Offer ownership, constructive feedback, and growth opportunities.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to identify challenges and drive platform adoption.

• Lead the DevEx Deploy & Run team and work in partnership across Slice.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in managing high-performing platform engineering teams.

• Proficient in project planning and tracking, with the ability to create team roadmaps.

• Technical knowledge in Kubernetes, GitOps (ArgoCD), CI/CD (GitHub Actions), Python automation, AWS, Terraform, and Datadog.

• Demonstrated success in enhancing developer experience, deployment reliability, and engineering efficiency.

• A platform-oriented mindset focused on reusable systems, self-service tools, and scalable guardrails.

• Clear and direct communication skills with technical platform teams and product engineering stakeholders.
