Engineering Manager, Commerce Solutions

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the architectural design, delivery, and roadmap for a specific engineering team.

• Collaborate with Product to define, scope, commit to, and execute the roadmap.

• Be responsible for engineering outcomes related to Commerce Solutions' WordPress, WooCommerce, Magento, and other application stacks.

• Manage automation, tooling, and images to ensure applications remain current and safe for upgrades.

• Develop a deep understanding of customers, architecture, dependencies, integrations, and operational risks.

• Ensure the long-term health and evolution of the products you oversee.

• Write specifications, review pull requests, and implement production changes.

• Lead the adoption of AI harness, agentic tooling, specification-first workflows, automated pull-request reviews, and reusable skills.

• Scope and estimate monthly work, identify uncertainties, establish cut lines, and report status transparently.

• Resolve cross-team engineering dependencies to prevent delivery blockages.

• Enhance DORA performance by minimizing review latency, build time, environment issues, handoffs, and approval loops.

• Mandate testing with every change, enforce coverage gating on modified code, and require evidence in pull requests.

• Make go/no-go release decisions based on available evidence.

• Conduct one-on-ones, maintain growth plans, provide direct feedback, and foster the development of engineers.

• Oversee the entire hiring process from start to finish.

• Manage a fair on-call rotation, address incident actions, reduce toil, and eliminate single points of failure.

• Participate in the team's on-call rotation.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years in software engineering, including at least one year in a formal or informal leadership role.

• Strong hands-on technical proficiency in PHP, Vue, and React.

• Experience with WordPress is essential.

• Familiarity with GitHub Automation is required.

• Proven experience in unit and integration testing.

• Currently hands-on; has recently shipped code and is capable of reviewing AI-generated code.

• Demonstrated real-world AI-assisted engineering experience with measurable impact.

• Evidence of improving team efficiency using DORA metrics or equivalent measures.

• Experience in delivering and modernizing software by committed deadlines.

• Background in collaborative scoping and data-driven forecasting.

• Experience in managing a production on-call rotation.

• Proven track record in owning the hiring process end to end and maintaining a high hiring standard.

• Experience in leading engineers across multiple time zones.

• Background in managed hosting, cloud services, or other high-availability service industries.
