This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee a team of engineers collaborating with the AI division and the wider engineering organization.
• Transform ideas from initial concept to production while ensuring the seamless operation of existing systems.
• Engage daily with data scientists, machine learning engineers, product managers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Propel delivery, encourage innovation, and offer leadership to team members.
• Manage, mentor, and develop engineers through constructive feedback and career growth initiatives.
• Recruit and onboard engineers as necessary, fostering technical leadership within the team.
• Balance stakeholder priorities and expectations effectively.
• Represent the team's roadmap, capacity, and potential risks during planning discussions.
• Facilitate technical discussions and design reviews.
• Collaborate on architectural and design choices.
• Ensure that technical decisions are well-understood and justifiable to stakeholders.
• Advocate for the effective use of AI tools for research, administrative tasks, and code generation.
• Weigh AI productivity benefits against associated risks.
• Enhance team efficiency, code quality, and decision-making through AI tools.
• Take ownership of roadmap delivery, encompassing feature development, technical debt, and reliability commitments.
• Establish standards for quality, testing, and monitoring practices.
• Relay progress, risks, and obstacles to stakeholders and leadership.
• Define metrics and evaluate performance against set targets.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a software engineer, with some experience in the machine learning domain.
• At least 4 years of direct experience managing engineers in a machine learning-focused area is preferred.
• Previous engineering management experience; this should not be your initial management role.
• Comfortable engaging in technical dialogues regarding architecture, data flows, and system design.
• Proven professional experience utilizing AI tools for research, administrative tasks, and code generation.
• A clear perspective on the responsible and cost-effective use of AI tools.
• Extensive knowledge of software development best practices, cloud computing platforms, big data technologies, MLOps toolkits, and SLO-driven reliability management.
• Experience with at least one of the following: Databricks, Spark, Airflow, Vertex, or the GCP technology stack is preferred.
• A strong history of managing relationships with a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to communicate effectively across different audiences and influence without direct authority.
• Comfortable handling competing priorities and providing constructive pushback.
• Experience delivering structured feedback and developing career paths for team members.
• Capability to build trust and psychological safety while upholding high output and accountability standards.
