This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee, mentor, and develop senior and staff engineers through one-on-one meetings, feedback, and decisions regarding performance and promotions.
• Establish expectations, proactively address issues, and maintain team focus and standards.
• Create career pathways and opportunities for professional growth.
• Manage planning and execution to ensure the team delivers consistently.
• Make and convey tradeoffs regarding speed, quality, and scope.
• Remove obstacles to work and escalate issues as necessary.
• Take responsibility for reliability, on-call duties, and incident responses.
• Lead postmortems and enhance processes following incidents.
• Ensure compliance with SOC 2, customer commitments, and secure development lifecycle requirements.
• Collaborate with product and design to create sequenced, actionable roadmaps.
• Represent the engineering team in technical discussions with customers, prospects, and executives.
• Convert customer requirements into feasible architectural solutions.
• Manage engineering recruitment, including sourcing, interview design, calibration, and closing candidates.
• Design team structure and clarify ownership boundaries as the organization expands.
• Establish standards for code reviews, testing, deployment, documentation, and architectural decision records.
• Define responsible usage of AI tools in the engineering process.
• Enhance build, test, deployment, and overall developer experience.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.
• At least 3 years of experience managing software engineers, including senior and staff-level individual contributors, with a proven track record of delivering production systems.
• Strong engineering expertise, including the development and operation of backend or distributed systems at scale.
• Capability to effectively participate in design reviews.
• Experience in taking ownership of team delivery, including planning, prioritization, and accountability for results.
• Proven experience managing on-call duties and incident responses for a production system with real availability expectations.
• Demonstrated success in hiring, including establishing an effective interview process.
• Comfort with the dynamic nature of startup environments, tackling ambiguous challenges and shifting priorities.
• Excellent written communication skills.
• Background in security, identity, fraud, or infrastructure-related B2B SaaS.
• Proficiency with Go, AWS, and service-oriented architectures.
• Experience scaling an engineering organization during a growth phase.
• Familiarity with SOC 2 or similar compliance frameworks as an engineering leader.
• An informed perspective on how AI coding tools impact engineering processes and quality, based on practical experience.
