This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kenya.
• Lead the successful execution and delivery of projects within engineering teams.
• Oversee comprehensive technical planning and convert product requirements into actionable tasks.
• Facilitate collaboration among engineers, product managers, QA, and UX teams.
• Take ownership of end-to-end delivery across cross-functional teams within the product domain.
• Assess requirements for technical feasibility and alignment with architectural standards.
• Convert requirements into EPICs and technical user stories.
• Refine, prioritize, and manage the backlog in collaboration with Product Managers, UX Designers, and Engineers.
• Organize and lead sprint execution, timelines, delivery milestones, and dependencies.
• Advocate for engineering processes and rituals that enhance collaboration, accountability, and efficiency.
• Track team velocity and capacity while optimizing resource allocation.
• Manage cross-team dependencies and ensure stakeholder alignment.
• Guide design decisions, uphold sound design patterns, and actively participate in code reviews.
• Ensure monitoring, alerting, and observability for managed services while adhering to SLIs and SLOs.
• Define, track, and share post-release product metrics with Product Managers.
• Supervise and mentor engineers, conduct performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 8–10 years of experience in a hands-on technical role such as Software Developer or Software Engineer.
• Over 5 years of experience in building production systems using Java and Spring Boot.
• At least 3 years of experience in engineering leadership, managing high-performing teams.
• Deep understanding of Agile methodologies, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and iterative delivery.
• Proven ability to translate complex product requirements into EPICs, user stories, and tasks.
• Strong backend engineering skills; frontend exposure is advantageous.
• Experience with project planning and tracking tools.
• Familiarity with engineering and product health metrics, as well as monitoring tools.
• Skilled in debugging complex production issues, leading incident response, and conducting blameless root cause analysis.
• Knowledge of modern deployment practices, CI/CD pipelines, release management, and related metrics.
• Capability to foster alignment among technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proficient in risk management, dependency tracking, and stakeholder communication.
• History of enhancing team velocity, delivery predictability, and engineering excellence.
• Experience in managing and mentoring engineers.
• Ability to evaluate bandwidth and manage resource allocation effectively.
• Experience in conducting performance reviews and offering constructive feedback.
• Competence in leading project status reviews and managing stakeholder expectations.
