Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Lead a diverse team of 5–10 engineers spanning backend, frontend, mobile, and QA disciplines.

• Deliver products that provide value to hundreds of thousands of businesses across Europe.

• Collaborate with the Product Manager to refine problem definitions and concentrate on business results.

• Manage the balance between feature delivery, technical debt, and scalability considerations.

• Make informed technical decisions by weighing explicit trade-offs and facilitate team progress when necessary.

• Conduct impactful 1:1 meetings and develop growth plans for employees.

• Take responsibility for hiring and promotion processes.

• Foster engaged teams through constructive feedback and coaching.

• Enhance team productivity by implementing improved tools, processes, and reducing bottlenecks.

• Work closely with Product and Design teams to ensure consistent delivery.

• Proactively communicate priorities, risks, and constraints.

• Promote open discussions and endorse the “disagree and commit” approach.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in software development, specifically in creating data-intensive production systems.

• Proven ability to lead cross-functional engineering teams effectively.

• Extensive technical expertise and hands-on experience with at least one general-purpose programming language/platform: C#/.NET, Java/JVM, JavaScript/Node, or Go.

• Familiarity with distributed architectures, databases, messaging, and queuing systems.

• Background in product-driven organizations, preferably with an international focus.

• Strong business insight connecting engineering efforts to revenue generation, customer retention, and trust-building.

• Proficient in product metrics such as DAU/MAU, retention rates, and conversion funnels.

• Excellent communication skills in English tailored to various audiences.
