Employment Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Report directly to the General Counsel, with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Chief Human Resources Officer.

• Provide daily guidance and counsel on a diverse range of labor and employment-related issues.

• Collaborate with human resources, finance, risk, benefits, corporate responsibility, leadership, and staff across Telecare.

• Drive business initiatives and employee relations strategies.

• Minimize and mitigate employment-related risks.

• Achieve economies of scale and ensure adherence to applicable regulatory and statutory requirements.

• Act as an employment law subject matter expert.

• Apply a working understanding of traditional labor relations.

• Foster a diverse legal practice and engage in areas outside of labor and employment law as necessary.

• Oversee settlement negotiations.

• Respond to agency actions, attorney demand letters, and individual plaintiff complaints.

• Navigate employee benefit plans.

• Review and assess contracts.

• Manage external legal counsel and/or supervise attorneys and legal staff.

• Handle conflict resolution.

⛳️ Requirements

• J.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited law school, with strong academic credentials.

• California Bar Admission in good standing.

• Practicing attorney with 5-7 years of experience specializing in employment law.

• Experience in advising clients, conducting training, and managing significant employment litigation, including wage and hour and employment practices matters.

• Experience in managing or supervising other attorneys.

• Experience appearing before federal and state agencies.

• Experience responding to attorney demand letters and single plaintiff complaints.

• Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and other laws and regulations concerning labor and employment matters.

• Strong working knowledge of traditional labor law.

• Proven excellence in client service.

• Ability to identify and analyze complex issues and develop practical strategies and solutions.

• Capacity to proactively partner with leadership in a fast-paced, demanding work environment.

• Strong alignment with Telecare’s mission and core values.

• Successful completion of relevant post-offer physical examination, 2-step PPD test for tuberculosis, criminal background checks, excluded party sanctions, and verification of degree or license.

• If the position requires driving, a valid driver’s license, motor vehicle clearance, and proof of auto insurance are required and must be maintained.
