This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop electrical architecture for AUV and USV subsystems, which includes planning power distribution topology, sensor and communication interface strategies, and connector and harness arrangements for marine conditions.
• Choose components and create bills of materials while considering performance, cost, and availability.
• Take ownership of schematic capture and PCB board layout, converting subsystem architecture into a manufacturable design.
• Generate specifications for connectors, harnesses, and cables to be fabricated by the on-site team.
• Assess bench test and bring-up outcomes from the on-site team and refine designs accordingly.
• Participate in remote design reviews to ensure alignment with program timelines and testing milestones.
• Keep schematics, BOMs, design notes, and other documentation up to date.
• Collaborate closely with Fathom Robotics' on-site team, overseeing bench bring-up, fabrication, and field deployments for uncrewed maritime systems.
• Proven hands-on experience in PCB layout, including schematic capture and board layout using tools such as Altium, KiCad, or Eagle; this is the most critical qualification for this position.
• Some experience in subsystem-level electrical design, including power architecture or sensor interfacing.
• A degree or equivalent practical experience in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• A strong foundation in circuit design principles: power electronics, signal integrity, and component selection.
• Familiarity with microcontroller platforms such as Arduino, STM32, or Teensy, along with flight controller hardware like Pixhawk.
• Knowledge of Embedded C/C++ or Python.
• Resourceful, proactive, and capable of working independently in a remote, asynchronous setting while maintaining close coordination with an on-site team.
• US person status is required (due to defense program context).
• Eligibility for SECRET clearance sponsorship if necessary for an assigned program.
• Preferred: Experience in power electronics or battery management system design.
• Preferred: Experience in EMI/EMC design and mitigation.
• Preferred: Design experience with waterproof or marine-rated connectors and enclosures.
• Preferred: Familiarity with ArduPilot, ArduSub, or MAVLink across any vehicle type.
• Preferred: Experience in integrating IMU or GNSS sensors.
• Preferred: Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent) for coordination with mechanical packaging.
• This is a part-time position and does not come with health benefits.
• Flexible scheduling between 15 to 30 hours per week.
• Opportunity for remote work.
• Regular video calls and collaborative design reviews with the on-site team.
