📋 Description

• Edit daily biotech news articles, features, and analyses for precision, clarity, structure, and impact.

• Report and compose daily news articles, features, and other in-depth coverage.

• Collaborate with the senior editor to establish daily coverage priorities and identify key stories for Fierce Biotech.

• Assist in managing the daily Fierce Biotech newsletter by curating and sequencing stories, writing newsletter content, and adhering to publication deadlines.

• Oversee daily editorial activities in the absence of the senior editor.

• Act swiftly on breaking news and assist reporters in pinpointing follow-ups, broader trends, and more in-depth reporting possibilities.

• Support reporters in refining story angles, enhancing reporting quality, and developing their individual voices.

• Contribute to special reports, ongoing editorial projects, and newsroom initiatives.

• Engage in Fierce events, including moderating panels and interviews, creating editorial programming, and representing the brand on stage.

• Work collaboratively across Fierce Biotech, Fierce Pharma, and the wider newsroom on significant stories and projects.

• Embrace and implement diversity in editorial work while fostering a culture of inclusion and belonging.

⛳️ Requirements

• 2-4 years of professional journalism experience, particularly in biotech coverage.

• Proven editing skills with the ability to confidently refine daily news stories under tight deadlines.

• Strong grasp of the biotech sector, including drug development, clinical trials, financing, dealmaking, regulation, and the key players in the industry.

• Capacity to report and write rapidly without compromising accuracy, context, or clarity.

• Excellent news judgment and an instinct for identifying developments that resonate with Fierce Biotech’s audience.

• Experience in a fast-paced digital newsroom environment.

• Strong communication and collaboration abilities, along with a team-oriented mindset.

• Enthusiasm for live journalism and capability to moderate interviews or panel discussions in front of industry audiences.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

• Good interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn and grow professionally.

• Strong team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with others.

• Candidates must have authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship, now or in the future.

• Preference for candidates with 5 years of proofreading experience.

• Preference for candidates with 5 years of line editing experience.
