This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Report directly to the VP, Deputy CISO while collaborating with the Security Data Science and Security leadership teams.
• Spearhead DigitalOcean's engagement with the broader AI security community.
• Act as the internal authority and escalation point for AI-related security risks.
• Define the integration of AI security controls within customer-facing products.
• Develop, deploy, and manage in-house AI/ML models, including guardrails, tools, and automations.
• Oversee the monitoring of deployed models for drift, assess their performance, and implement enhancements.
• Direct adversarial testing and AI red teaming efforts, which include jailbreaking, prompt injection, evasion, and poisoning tests.
• Conduct security reviews of significant AI product initiatives while providing architectural approvals and escalation recommendations.
• Execute threat modeling throughout the AI lifecycle.
• Take ownership of DigitalOcean's AI Security strategy and long-term roadmap.
• Design and lead the AI Risk & Governance framework across DigitalOcean and Cloudways.
• Represent AI security matters during executive and board-level briefings.
• Establish DigitalOcean's stance on emerging topics within AI security.
• Over 10 years of experience in the field of cybersecurity.
• Minimum of 4–5 years dedicated to AI/ML security, adversarial machine learning, or security data science within a production cloud or technology setting.
• Proven track record of defining and steering AI or security initiatives at an organizational scale.
• Practiced knowledge of adversarial ML attacks and defenses, including evasion, poisoning, model extraction, membership inference, and prompt injection.
• Ability to assess academic AI security research and translate findings into engineering guidance and organizational policies.
• Experience in engaging with executive and senior leadership audiences regarding technical risks.
• Strong programming capabilities in Python and Go.
• Background in building security tools and automation processes.
• Proficient in reviewing AI/ML system architectures.
• Hands-on experience with AI red-team initiatives, defensive tools, and model supply-chain frameworks.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Familiarity with OWASP LLM Top 10, MITRE ATLAS, NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, and the EU AI Act.
• Previous experience in a cloud provider, security product firm, or large-scale internet platform.
• Knowledge of production LLM security, including RAG pipelines, agentic frameworks, and model APIs.
