Director, Research & Development

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Provide technical leadership and guidance for product development and support services across the organization.

• Establish KPIs and metrics to evaluate R&D initiatives and deliver regular reports and updates to senior management.

• Oversee the technology roadmap for product development.

• Manage the allocation of budget, personnel, and infrastructure.

• Mentor, coach, and lead R&D team members.

• Direct end-to-end project management from planning to delivery.

• Coordinate cross-functional teams regarding scope, timelines, risks, and dependencies.

• Take ownership of R&D planning, execution tracking, risk management, and status reporting.

• Serve as the primary liaison between the R&D team and executive leadership.

• Contribute to R&D strategies, goals, and objectives in alignment with business priorities and software development innovation.

• Collaborate with the executive team on departmental budgeting, forecasting, and return on investment.

• Travel as required, approximately 1–2 trips per year to South Korea.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent work experience.

• Over 10 years of experience in software development.

• More than 5 years of experience in project or program management.

• At least 3 years of experience in a leadership or management capacity.

• Bilingual in English and Korean.

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to prioritize and manage multiple projects and initiatives concurrently.

• Proven experience in managing teams and leading cross-functional groups.

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams and conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Ability to balance accountability for delivery with responsibilities in people leadership.

• Willingness to travel for on-site visits to the R&D office as necessary.

• Possession of a current, valid passport and legal eligibility for international travel.

• Passport-based visa exemption or the necessary travel visas for entry into South Korea.

• Comfortable utilizing AI-enabled technologies, including copilots, chat-based AI assistants, and automation tools.

• Preference for candidates available to work in the Korean Standard Time timezone.
