Director, Quality

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee GTI’s quality assurance and quality control operations throughout its multi-state cultivation, manufacturing, and production network.

• Take ownership of QA/QC policies, standard operating procedures, and the overall quality management system.

• Foster a culture prioritizing quality, food safety, sanitation, and compliance excellence across Cultivation, Extraction & Formulation, Production, Supply Chain, and Compliance.

• Develop and enhance GMP, HACCP, sanitation, allergen management, and SPC quality initiatives.

• Specify critical quality attributes, process controls, in-process testing, product specifications, and criteria for finished-goods release.

• Manage the QualityOne / Veeva Vault electronic quality management system, overseeing document, change, and version control.

• Direct sanitation and quality-control measures for cannabis products while supervising inspections, hold-and-release procedures, and the disposition of nonconforming materials.

• Collaborate with analytical laboratories on testing for potency, terpenes, residual solvents, pesticides, microbial contaminants, and heavy metals; interpret COAs and implement corrective actions for OOS results.

• Manage NCR and OOS processes, spearhead root-cause analysis and CAPA, and assist in product complaint investigations.

• Monitor and analyze NCR, OOS, complaint, and CAPA data to promote systemic process enhancements.

• Ensure adherence to GTI procedures as well as municipal, state, and federal cannabis regulations.

• Act as the quality liaison for regulators and inspectors, ensuring audit readiness and effective responses during inspections.

• Maintain quality-related traceability and recordkeeping within seed-to-sale systems like METRC.

• Develop internal audit and supplier/vendor qualification programs.

• Strive for and maintain relevant SQF, ISO, and GMP certifications.

• Utilize LEAN and quality tools to minimize variability, scrap, and rework.

• Lead Quality Managers across various locations through performance monitoring, feedback, and development initiatives.

• Provide quality performance updates, metrics, and risk assessments to operations and executive teams.

• Travel up to 50% across the United States.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Microbiology, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline; equivalent experience and tenure will be considered.

• Over 10 years of quality (QA/QC) operations experience in a highly regulated production environment within the cannabis, food/beverage, pharmaceutical, or CPG sectors.

• At least 7 years of progressive leadership experience in establishing and enhancing QA/QC processes, systems, and teams.

• Proven expertise in GMP, HACCP, SPC, sanitation, and allergen management programs.

• Experience in root-cause analysis and CAPA methodologies.

• Capability to engage with regulators and inspectors and interpret changing state regulations.

• Ability to analyze COAs, potency data, and contaminant data, translating findings into process and specification modifications.

• Must successfully pass all required background checks.

• Must comply with legal and company regulations for employment in the industry.

• Possession of a valid driver’s license is required.

• Must be at least 21 years old.

• Approval from a state badging agency is necessary to work in the cannabis industry.

• Up to 50% travel across the United States is required.
