Director, Production and Infrastructure Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Lead and develop the Production and Infrastructure Engineering organization encompassing DevOps, SRE, DevEx, MLOps, and dedicated support.

• Take charge of hiring, onboarding, one-on-one meetings, career development, and performance management.

• Mentor junior engineers, cultivate technical leaders, and create clear expectations and feedback mechanisms.

• Establish shared priorities and responsibilities across infrastructure, reliability, developer experience, testing, and application delivery.

• Facilitate sprint planning, backlog grooming, capacity planning, and delivery reviews alongside technical leads and TPMs.

• Transform ambiguous objectives into actionable tasks, manage dependencies and scope, while balancing roadmap delivery with incidents and customer support.

• Engage in design and code reviews, technical investigations, and pairing sessions as required.

• Oversee reliability, release and change management, QA, E2E validation, operational documentation, and rollback strategies.

• Enhance cloud infrastructure, automation, CI/CD processes, observability, on-call readiness, and incident response capabilities.

• Lead the Red Cell Partners support team, which consists of full-stack engineers, DevOps engineers, and a dedicated TPM.

• Collaborate with Product, Platform, Applied AI, and Security/GRC teams on delivery priorities, operational readiness, and customer requirements.

• Identify risks, secure decision-making, and ensure engineering commitments are fulfilled.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of relevant engineering experience, including more than 5 years in direct engineering people management, or equivalent demonstrated expertise.

• Proven history of building teams, coaching engineers, managing performance, and delivering results through technical leads.

• Leadership experience across multiple engineering functions for candidates at the Director level.

• Experience in leading teams with diverse technical specialties and varying seniority levels.

• Exceptional planning, prioritization, delegation, and stakeholder communication skills.

• Strong technical foundation in at least one major cloud platform, such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.

• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, containers, networking, identity, and production operations.

• Practical knowledge of Terraform, Git-based development workflows, GitOps, and CI/CD practices.

• Solid background in building and deploying production software, with considerable expertise in backend services, APIs, data stores, and full-stack integration.

• Experience in leading production delivery and support, including reliability, incident response, release and change management, automated testing, and E2E readiness.

• Ability to impose structure on ambiguity, rapidly learn new technical domains, and make prompt decisions with incomplete information.

• Experience managing technical commitments and escalations with both internal and external customers.

• Certain national security roles may necessitate U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, based on confirmed customer and contract requirements.

• Some travel is necessary.
