This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Take ownership of the overall risk function by establishing the strategy, priorities, operational standards, and risk management framework for the organization.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the risk team; set clear roles and expectations while enhancing risk judgment and decision-making abilities.
• Analyze the structure, skills, and capacity of the current risk organization and suggest staffing and capability enhancements.
• Evaluate and monitor client and debtor credit risk, exposure, concentrations, and emerging portfolio risks.
• Supervise KYB/KYC, UCC, and risk-based client onboarding processes and approvals, including authorization levels and escalation protocols.
• Detect suspicious activities, trends, and emerging fraud risks; design scalable workflows and controls to prevent fraud and reduce losses.
• Create and manage risk-based controls for invoice approval and verification processes.
• Develop portfolio management procedures for tracking aging, dilution, concentrations, exceptions, and overall portfolio quality.
• Enhance risk scoring, reporting, key risk indicators (KRIs), and data-driven decision-making tools.
• Collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to strike a balance between risk management and responsible growth, providing counsel on major business decisions.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Over 7 years of experience in risk, underwriting, fraud, or compliance, including leadership in a risk or underwriting role.
• Extensive experience in the trucking/freight industry is essential.
• Proven track record in managing and developing teams, including setting expectations, coaching employees, monitoring performance, and enhancing team capabilities.
• Familiarity with KYB/KYC, UCC, client/debtor risk, and invoice verification processes.
• Strong comprehension of fraud detection, portfolio risk, aging, and dilution factors.
• Highly analytical and data-oriented, with excellent pattern-recognition and problem-solving capabilities.
• Experience in developing risk models, analytics, controls, and workflows to prevent fraud.
• Possess strong risk judgment and the ability to make prompt decisions even when information may be lacking or unclear.
• Capable of establishing clear risk policies, approval authorities, escalation standards, and accountability within a risk organization.
• Experience in identifying deficiencies in existing processes and teams, with a focus on implementing effective enhancements.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional leadership skills, particularly in articulating risk issues and recommendations to senior leadership.
• Comfortable overseeing offshore and distributed teams in a dynamic, remote work environment.
• Willing to take a hands-on approach when necessary while fostering a team that can independently handle daily risk management tasks.
