Director of Fundraising – Development

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Develop and oversee OpenFn's fundraising strategy targeting major donors, foundations, and other mission-aligned funding sources.

• Establish fundraising processes, systems, and reporting schedules as OpenFn's inaugural dedicated fundraising hire.

• Collaborate with the CEO and leadership team to define and monitor fundraising priorities.

• Identify, nurture, and manage relationships with foundations, family offices, and individual major donors.

• Build and sustain a pipeline of prospective funders through multi-year commitments.

• Represent OpenFn to senior funding audiences, articulating technical work into a persuasive case for support and impact.

• Draft and coordinate proposals, funding narratives, and reports.

• Partner with the CEO and program teams to collect impact data and narratives.

• Forge connections within the Digital Public Goods and Digital Public Infrastructure funding community.

• Represent OpenFn in relevant policy discussions and gatherings.

• Monitor and report on the fundraising pipeline, commitments, and funder engagement to the CEO and leadership.

• Ensure prompt, high-quality communications and reporting to funders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in fundraising, development, or philanthropic partnerships, preferably in international development, global health, or technology-for-good sectors.

• Proven network of relationships with foundations, major donors, or institutional funders engaged in social impact or technology for development.

• Established history of securing substantial gifts or grants and maintaining funder relationships over several years.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical, mission-driven work into a compelling case for support.

• Strong project management and organizational abilities; adept at creating processes where none exist.

• Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a small, fully-remote team.

• Proficient, professional-level English communication skills, both written and spoken.

• Ability to work effectively across a distributed, multicultural team.

• Reliable access to a quiet, dedicated remote workspace with robust internet connectivity suitable for daily video calls and cloud-based collaboration.

• Preferred: experience in policy discussions or advocacy relating to digital public goods and digital public infrastructure.

• Preferred: existing connections with funders in the DPG and DPI sectors.

• Preferred: experience in fundraising for a growth-stage mission-driven organization.

• Preferred: familiarity with DPGs, open source, or GovTech ecosystems.

• Preferred: a generalist mindset, comfortable taking on multiple roles in a lean organization.
