Director of DevOps

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of DevOps engineers.

• Define and advance the strategy for DevOps and platform engineering across various product lines.

• Establish clear ownership demarcations among DevOps, IT, and Security.

• Build and expand the DevOps operating model.

• Oversee and enhance cloud infrastructure to ensure high availability, security, scalability, and cost efficiency.

• Set standards for infrastructure-as-code and environment management.

• Promote consistency in cloud architecture and deployment methodologies.

• Standardize CI/CD practices across engineering teams.

• Minimize deployment friction and enhance developer productivity through automation and tooling.

• Advocate best practices for build, test, release, and deployment workflows.

• Manage the observability strategy using New Relic, including alerting, dashboards, and SLOs/SLAs.

• Lead incident response efforts, post-mortem analyses, and reliability enhancements.

• Drive performance tuning and capacity planning initiatives.

• Collaborate with Security to uphold compliance and security standards.

• Implement and enforce controls across various environments.

• Manage engineering delivery metrics, including deployment frequency, lead time for changes, change failure rate, and mean time to recovery.

• Enhance system reliability, availability, and operational efficiency.

• Improve cloud cost transparency and optimization in partnership with Finance and Engineering.

• Align platform capabilities with business priorities alongside Product, Data, and Engineering leadership.

• Support customer-facing reliability and SLA commitments in collaboration with Support and LiveOps teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in DevOps, infrastructure, or site reliability engineering, including 3+ years in a leadership role.

• Proven track record of leading DevOps or platform teams in a cloud-first environment while maintaining a hands-on approach.

• Current experience assisting engineering teams in implementing scalable cloud architectures using CaC, IaC, and Kubernetes.

• Strong expertise and practical experience with AWS (EC2, ECS/EKS, RDS, IAM, VPC, S3, and associated services).

• Demonstrated ability to guide and mentor other DevOps, cloud, and software engineers.

• In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes and container orchestration, including experience managing production EKS clusters.

• Comprehensive understanding of networking and cloud networking concepts, such as VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, load balancers, DNS, and VPN/Direct Connect connectivity.

• Experience managing CI/CD pipelines, ideally with Bitbucket Pipelines or similar tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).

• Proficient with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.

• Extensive experience utilizing observability tools for logging, monitoring, alerting, incident management, and escalation (New Relic/Datadog/etc.).

• Familiarity with web application architecture concepts, including databases, message queues, serverless and event-driven architectures, and caching mechanisms.

• Ability to collaborate with Engineering teams to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.

• Hands-on software development experience, including writing and deploying production code in any programming language.

• Proficient in scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

• AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, etc.).

• Experience with FinOps / cloud cost optimization practices.
