This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Deliver coaching, mentorship, and management to Medical Liaisons operating in the field.

• Create and execute strategies that are in line with the designated territory archetypes.

• Cultivate relationships with key opinion leaders, organized healthcare providers, academic institutions, integrated delivery networks, and other healthcare organizations.

• Ensure that healthcare providers receive timely and relevant scientific information.

• Promote personal growth and collaboration among Medical Liaison teams and Novo Nordisk units.

• Act as a representative of Field Medical Affairs within the US affiliate and internationally as required.

• Provide administrative and management assistance for the field-based FMA program.

• Guarantee compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.

• Establish operational policies and procedures, budgets, schedules, and performance benchmarks.

• Lead and engage in area and national projects, team meetings, and training sessions.

• Organize FMA activities at designated medical and scientific meetings and symposia.

• Present at symposia and maintain connections with key healthcare providers.

• Take part in Marketing and Sales meetings, offering industry insights.

• Identify potential investigators for clinical trials and future research initiatives.

• Address medical inquiries in compliance with legal, regulatory, and company guidelines.

• Review expense reports, time, activities, plans, and budgets for direct reports.

• Facilitate information flow and respond to requests for Medical Liaison support.

• Collaborate with Regional and Medical Marketing teams to nurture thought-leader relationships.

• Assist in preparing presentations for Pre-POA, POA, and other company gatherings.

• Support product and clinical data education using approved resources.

• Aid in the recruitment and selection of staff.

• Set and evaluate annual goals while coaching reporting personnel on Individual Development Plans (IDPs).

• Communicate policies, procedures, and organizational changes effectively.

• Coordinate training and development strategies with other Field Directors.

• Ensure team members are aware of Novo Nordisk’s strategic and therapeutic priorities.

• Assess the performance of Medical Liaisons in the field and provide timely feedback.

• Mentor Field Directors, Medical Liaisons, and RMSs.

• Prepare Medical Liaisons for field activities by reviewing agendas and presentation decks.

• Enhance the technical, scientific, business, communication, and motivational skills of reporting personnel.

• Spend time in the field with direct reports for coaching and development purposes.

• Conduct workforce assessments to identify talent gaps and resource needs.

• Ensure that reporting personnel maintain development plans, goals, metrics, learning plans, and aspiration plans.

• Oversee the application and communication of Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and the Novo Nordisk Way.


⛳️ Requirements

• 2–3 years of experience in a Medical Liaison or similar role.

• 6 years of prior management experience, including a minimum of 2 years leading field medical affairs personnel.

• Internal Field Area Director experience may count in place of 6 years of management experience.

• 8 years of progressive experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

• A minimum of 3 years in a healthcare system setting is preferred.

• An advanced degree in healthcare or science is required, such as DO, MD, PharmD, PhD, or DNP.

• Direct experience in a therapeutic area is preferred.

• Demonstrated success in building relationships with opinion leaders and organized healthcare providers.

• Experience in strategy and team management.

• Strong cross-functional collaborative leadership skills.

• Ability to establish and strengthen relationships with both internal and external customers.

• Capability to enhance Novo Nordisk’s reputation and operations as a leading diabetes care company.

• Proficient in identifying, addressing, and resolving team-wide challenges with minimal oversight.

• Commitment to self-improvement, leadership, personal development, scientific literature review, and competitor analysis.

• Ability to work independently and strategically while sharing best practices.

• Flexibility and foresight to guide field medical personnel through a dynamic market.

• Leadership and strategic thinking abilities to support less experienced Field Directors.

• Valid driver’s license.

• Must maintain good standing according to Novo Nordisk’s motor vehicle record points threshold.

• Willingness to travel overnight 50–75% of the time.
