Director, Enterprise AI – Machine Learning Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Lead the engineering and machine learning strategy for agentic AI solutions tailored for Instacart’s retail partners.

• Build, mentor, and inspire high-performing teams in engineering and science.

• Collaborate with retailers and internal stakeholders to transform intricate business challenges into AI products.

• Oversee the development of reliable, scalable, and user-friendly systems that integrate machine learning, data, software engineering, and agentic capabilities.

• Set the strategic direction in a zero-to-one product environment while balancing technical strategy with swift execution.

• Represent Enterprise AI across the organization, effectively communicating trade-offs, progress, risks, and opportunities to senior stakeholders.

• Manage products throughout the entire lifecycle, from identifying customer needs and exploring technologies to deploying and scaling production-ready AI systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in building and deploying agentic AI, generative AI, or machine learning products in live production settings.

• Experience in leading engineering, machine learning, data science, or applied science teams through the stages of product development and delivery.

• Experience collaborating with product, business, customer-facing, and technical stakeholders to define requirements and deliver solutions to intricate problems.

• Strong knowledge of machine learning development practices, software engineering principles, data systems, and the operational considerations necessary for scaling AI applications.

• Proven ability to set technical direction, prioritize tasks, manage ambiguity, and achieve results in a rapidly evolving environment.

• Preferred: In-depth technical knowledge in agentic systems, large language models, machine learning platforms, or related applied artificial intelligence.

• Preferred: Experience in delivering applied machine learning products at a significant scale.

• Preferred: Experience leading cross-functional initiatives across engineering, machine learning, data science, product, consulting, and customer-facing teams.

• Preferred: Experience working directly with retailers, commerce platforms, or other enterprise clients.

• Preferred: A track record of creating clarity and momentum in zero-to-one product settings.
